"This is a grassroots campaign," Mahoney said in a phone interview. "Since our announcement, 99% of those contributions are from the residents of Quincy. I'm very proud of that."

In her interview with the CRC, Mahoney spoke about the need for financial transparency as the city continues experiencing new development and the population growth that has accompanied these developments. Mahoney added the city’s schools will need to grow with the city. The changing demographics of the city should be reflected in the school’s hiring, and Mahoney indicated that making sure our schools are appropriately staffed includes educators who specialize in helping students with mental health issues as well as those who work with our most vulnerable populations.

“So it's doubled in price," she said. "The price you had estimated was between $5 (million) and $6 million; now it's almost $14 (million). The size is the same. The same square footage. People who don't golf don't want to spend this kind of money.”

Mahoney harshly criticized the administration for what she called unfair and opaque salary adjustments.
"The disparity through gender bias in pay is blatantly obvious," she said, pointing to the lack of women making $170,000 or more.

City Councilor-at-Large Anne Mahoney said the raises were worthy of more discussion than being lumped into the budget process, and that she doubts they're fair to every employee.
