Anne’s Plan | Affordability

Addressing the rising cost of living for Quincy residents

With the rising cost of living, many longtime residents and new families alike struggle to afford to stay in Quincy. On the Council, I have advocated for reforms like a residential tax credit and ensuring new development includes workforce housing and affordable units. I have fought to hold developers accountable and ensure essential workers can afford to live here. I am committed as mayor to ensuring people can continue to afford to grow their families in Quincy.

Affordable Housing

As Mayor I will:

  • Introduce a residential tax credit for homeowners to keep families in Quincy.

  • Update Quincy’s Housing Production Plan to create a more comprehensive and responsive housing vision that documents our current housing needs and recommends ways to create a mix of housing types for different income levels, while ensuring that we don’t grow too fast to strain city services or infrastructure.

  • Review zoning ordinances to make necessary updates and streamline development to ensure the projects we need are getting built in a timely, efficient manner–and in the right places.

  • Explore creative approaches to increase affordability while giving residents a voice in the process, including solutions like incentivizing Accessory Dwelling Units, increasing the percentage of affordable units required in projects, limiting the developer buyout option, and reviewing our public engagement process for large-scale residential developments (40Bs).

  • Maximize our Community Preservation Act funding by increasing public transparency around funds and projects, prioritizing affordable housing projects and investments in open spaces, and publicly tracking the progress of these projects.

  • Convening private and public sector stakeholders to work to reduce energy costs for residents.
