Supporting public education for our future
As a former School Committee Member, I have spent my career as a fierce advocate for public education. I have led the charge to support our educators and fund our public schools. I fought for the implementation of free full-day kindergarten and investments in our school buildings, including voting for three new schools that are now completed and the Squantum Elementary school that is presently in the planning stage. As Mayor, I will focus on funding our schools, increasing community and family engagement, and investing in programs that increase student well-being.
As Mayor I will:
Fully fund our public schools and partner with the Superintendent of Schools, all educators, families, and our School Committee to provide high-quality public education to every student, including hiring more teachers if necessary to maintain a satisfactory student-staff ratio.
Encourage parent and community engagement through personalized outreach, community events, and improved language access around QPS communication.
Expand partnerships with nearby colleges and universities to create teacher pipelines and programming for our students.
Expand access to mental health services for students.
Hire additional support staff, including special education teachers and language specialists, to provide individualized assistance to students.
Provide teachers with resources for delivering specialized instruction, including the development and execution of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
Support our teachers through expanding training and professional development opportunities, fostering networks for support and collaboration between educators to share resources and best practices, implementing effective recruitment strategies for new teachers and school staff, and providing existing staff with a supportive work environment.
Collaborate with MSBA (Massachusetts School Board Authority) to evaluate our school buildings to ensure they are meeting the needs of our students and educators, while limiting long-term costs for taxpayers.
Push state leaders for the inclusion of Quincy College into the state college system.
Make Lunar New Year a school holiday.
