Anne’s Plan | Resilience

Creating a more resilient, beautiful, and green Quincy

The climate crisis is already impacting our health and putting us at risk. Quincy is uniquely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and it is critical we take urgent action. As a City Councilor, I approved funding for sea walls, requested a review of the tree inventory of our City, and approved funding for our open spaces and parks including Kincaide Park, which had the City's first splash pad.

As Mayor I will:

  • Make City operations more energy-efficient by investing in electric or hybrid vehicles, implementing solar panels on all city buildings, and implementing composting in our schools.

  • Reduce our building emissions and waste by implementing stricter building codes that emphasize energy efficiency and sustainable construction practices, composting organic waste to reduce landfill waste and methane emissions, and supporting initiatives to reduce single-use plastics and promote reusable alternatives.

  • Develop and implement strategies to adapt to climate change impacts, such as extreme weather events and sea-level rise, and build partnerships with neighboring cities and local organizations to enhance regional resilience efforts.

  • Develop and promote pedestrian-friendly urban planning to encourage walking and cycling.

  • Support community-led mural projects, public art workshops and exhibits, and local art events or festivals that reflect our City's identity, history, and cultural diversity to promote local tourism and our local creative economy.

  • Create Quincy’s first public garden where residents can grow their own produce through Community Preservation Act Funds.

  • Create a comprehensive maintenance plan and programming for ALL of our city parks to improve the quality and accessibility of our open spaces for our residents.

  • Add programming to our public parks like family-friendly activities, arts and creative programming, and social opportunities.

  • Expand creative funding sources through federal and state grants and the creation of a renewable energy fund to increase green investments in Quincy, fund park improvements, construct the long-promised and funded Ward 4 neighborhood park, add additional park amenities like a winter skating rink and pickleball courts, increase green roofs and gardens, and build green infrastructure like EV chargers and mitigation infrastructure.

  • Develop a tree canopy ordinance, support the planting and maintenance of trees, and construct more water pads to reduce our urban heat island effect and provide cooling.

  • Restore Ruth Gordon Amphitheater with better electrical service, new lighting, masonry repairs, handicap access, landscaping improvements, and an increased budget for promotion and live acts.
